In spite of the fact that in 1991 he was denied his degree from the Royal College of Art, due to a controversial installation of an empty room displaying only a plaque with the inscription “Borough of Kensington/GAVIN TURK/Sculptor/Worked Here 1989-1991”, he is a key component in the collective YBA’s. En Face consists of a set of busts made of clay, the result of an interactive performance carried out in April in his studio under the title “The Bust Party” where a group of people handled the wet clay of 72 busts portraying the artist, until they transformed a classic self-portrait.
