Argentine photographer Humberto Rivas (1937-2009) has been called the photographer of silence. Rivas fled Argentinas military coup in 1976 for Spain, where he lived until his death. He was commissioned to produce portraits of some of Spains best known Catalonians--Joan Miro, Antoni Tapies, among them. Whether portrait, landscape or still life, the artists works invariably betray his somber gaze.
