Some commentators have hailed the Australian designer Marc Newson as the new Starck. What is more interesting is the new Newson. The assurance and poise behind Newsons current work shows the same enthusiasm for cutting edge engineering as before, but matched by a visual elegance and an ability to move through different design fields with fluency and skill. Newson is known not only for his visual sense but for the range of projects he has undertaken: from relighting the Sydney Opera House for the Olympics to designing a project car for Ford to creating restaurants in Tokyo.
